Happy Holidays 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

How fast 2012 has come and gone - almost.
For us it has been a year which started like so many others, with one exception – we finally left the phone company at the end of March. So many good-byes, and so many missed friends. Just can't take work friends with you. We miss you all !!

We took off, in April, with the RV and didn’t return until July. Our travels are chronicled here in our blog.  One thing we didn't see coming was, for Leo to have both his hips replaced this year.  His first hip replacement was August 16th and his second was just November 8th.  He is on the mend and ready to go again after the holidays.
Nicole and Tommy moved into their first home in the fall this year. They are living in Aubrey Texas, about mid-way between McKinney and Denton just off 380. Annie Jane has taken it all in stride and now enjoys coming to Grandma Neuner’s a time or two during the week for fun and games.

Jess has added to her family this year. In addition to Gus and Tony she has rescued a black Labrador named this fall and named him ‘JET’.  All the ‘kids’ are still staying within their boundaries as they get to know each other.    Jess and Jet get out quite a bit for exercise. In fact they will be driving [did I say road trip] to McKinney for Christmas this year.

That is about all the Neuner News for now.
Warm Wishes to everyone for a Happy and Loving Holiday this year.

Visiting Jerome

Today, we drove over to Jerome – an old copper mining town, built on the side of a mountain.  Once, one of the richest towns in America, it is now haunted by ghosts and is the mecca for artisans and tourists from around the area.  More info on Jerome

This week Oct 20 thru Oct 27, the 8th annual Sedona Plein Air Festival (PLEIN AIR Festival) takes place around the Sedona area. Today artists take to the streets of Jerome for the cities ‘paint out’. We caught several artists hard at work this afternoon.

Sunday Road Trip North

What would be a trip to Sedona without driving through Oak Creek Canyon ?  We headed north on 89A, out of Sedona and towards Flagstaff, past Slide Rock Park and West Fork Hiking areas, thru the switchbacks as we continue to climb through the Coconino Forest until we reach the North Gateway Information Center at the Oak Creek Vista. The scenic overview provides an outstanding view of the Oak Creek Vistas.

Look close and you can see the triple switchbacks you must travel to traverse the mountain.

Driving further north toward Flagstaff we headed for the Arizona Snowbowl   ARIZONA SNOWBOWL .   Located on the majestic San Francisco Peaks, the Arizona Snowbowl lies 14 miles outside of Flagstaff.  It is a favorite location, short of Colorado, to catch the shimmering Aspen.
This year however, we were a bit late in the season to see ALL the color and the dancing leaves… but Debbie did get some good pics.

Arts and Craft Fair

Saturday, October 20, 2012

Today, we hiked from our resort, Arroyo Roble Resort , which is located next to Oak Creek in Sedona on the low side of town, up the hills to the high side of Uptown Sedona to ‘take in’ the annual Sedona’s Heritage Museum’s Annual Fall Arts and Crafts Fair and Bake Sale.

This is a relatively small event where local artisans participate with ONLY HANDMADE items. More than 40 artists were scattered throughout the museum’s buildings with jewelry, stained glass, ceramics and various needle craft items. I enjoyed the historical items on the museum’s property while Debbie did her best at shopping the crafts.

Good insight into the history of the Sedona area.

Unfortunately all the history displays were moved aside for the crafter's tables

Fay Canyon Trail

After taking a day off from all the activities, Debbie and I took to the hiking trail today and hiked the FAY CANYON TRAIL (More Info Here)  .
The canyon contains a natural stone arch, which we hiked to, and many cairns to keep us on the path. It was a great hike !!

The warning stated: BEWARE OF BEARS ...

This way --> to the arch.....

The arch stands alone in front of another much larger rock facade.

The only tuff piece of the hike was climbing up the loose rock in front of the arch

The slit between arch and facade

the arch on the left - the larger facade on the right

The West Fork Hike

Today we planned for a hike on the West Fork (More Info Here)– a beautiful hike which crosses the Oak Creek numerous times on its way. For me, Leo, I think I spent all my ‘good-Hip’ collateral on the golf course the day before, so I stayed back and worked on my hook rug and started a new book for this trip.

The group took alot of good pics on the hike... Here are a few…

New country corn flakes...new country corn flakes.....(where is the pitchforks ?)

Which way did they go ?

Front row, obviously, having a hard time focusing on the task at hand.

Later that evening we all went out to dinner to the Ol' Sedona Bar & Grill for our last night together…… We like the fried cactus !
